The Glens and Dalriada
u3a
Our geographical position encompasses some of the most beautiful areas of North Antrim. The famous nine glens, with their evocative names are rich in folklore and history. The natural beauty of the area is a world away from the frantic rush of modern life.
Dalriada “The Kingdom of the Sea”, stretching across the sea of Moyle between the North Antrim coast and the Mull of Kintyre was probably Ireland's first and only maritime Kingdom. Steeped in Legend and romance it is the earliest known realm to unite the lands of Ireland with those of Scotland.

The University of the third age is a self-help organization, open to people who are no longer in full time employment. It draws on the wealth of knowledge and experience of members to set up study groups and common interest groups. It’s main objective is to provide a variety of physical and mental stimulation for those who join. Groups meet at weekly, fortnightly or monthly intervals and occasionally for trips and holidays. The term University is used in broadest sense meaning the University of Life.
The Glens and Dalriada u3a is autonomous, but is affiliated to a national and international movement.

Our u3a group was formed in 2007. At the moment we have a range of over 20 activities in place Monday to Friday at a number of venues. A sense of isolation can occur for anyone living alone particularly during the winter months, and especially for those in rural areas. Therefore it is our aim to offer regular socially based activities run in daylight hours, to enable members meet with their friends and acquaintances and to make new ones.
Added to the regular locally based activities is our “ Days Away”, --planned trips and visits are organised at various times through out the year. These are usually one day affairs’ a trip for example to the Fermanagh Lakeland, Historic Derry, or a visit to a show in the Grand Opera house.
